Jay Leno on fast cars, the late night lineup and his favorite moments from the Tonight Show
The former host of “The Tonight Show,” is back in the driver’s seat with the second season of his show on CNBC, “Jay Leno’s Garage.” His fascination with all things automotive (he owns 150 cars and 117 motorcycles) and his easy on-screen charm made the first season of the series the most watched in the network’s history.
We sat down to talk about his show, his interminable stand-up career and the state of late night.
“Jay Leno’s Garage” — which is also the name of a YouTube series hosted by Leno is all about the love of the automobile. “I watch a lot of the car shows … and they either buy a car and then sell it, or they fix it up in a week,” Leno said. “We wanted to find more [of] the passion … the fun stories.”
After 22 years in late night, Leno retired from the “The Tonight Show” in 2014, and recalled some of his favorite moments over the years, including one that made him emotional.
